ANISTATIA MILLER AND JARED BROWN (that's us) are the authors of a few titles that delve into the history of spirits and the drinks that are made with them. That's means drink and write about drinks for a living. Established in 1995, our web site Shaken Not Stirred: A Celebration of the Martini led to the publication of the book (you guessed it) Shaken Not Stirred: A Celebration of the Martini (HarperCollins, 1997 and Europa Verlag, 1998). Our homage to the bubbly, Champagne Cocktails, was published two years later (ReganBooks, 1999).

Since those early days, we have scribed our musings on drinks history as contributing editors to Mixology, published in Germany. Our rants have also appeared in Imbibe (UK), Wine Spectator, Cigar Aficionado, FoodArts, Wine and Dine, Slammed, DiffordsGuide to Drinking, and Theme. We produced regular cocktail, restaurant and travel rants as contributing editors for Hamptons, Gotham, LA Confidential and Aspen Peak magazines.

MIXELLANY BOOKS

THE THING WE LOVE MOST most about progress is that with every new advancement in technology, communication gets easier for us poor anoraks who obsess on researching and writing about a particular subject. That's why we established Mixellany Books in 2004. Besides offering ourselves a vehicle to publish tomes that we've written, we also published Mixologist: The Journal of the American Cocktail, volumes one and two, and in May 2009 will be releasing Mixologist: The Journal of the European Cocktail.

Why the change? Simple. We moved to the UK in 2007. We discovered in our travels that cocktails and the art of bartending really their birth in Europe, where the drinks revival has gained remarkable ground in the past decade. On occasion we find a book that has gone into public domain that we feel every cocktail lover should read. The Cafe Royal Cocktail Book (1937) and Bariana (1900) are two examples we issued in 2008. Naturally, we publish our own stuff. Recently, we wrote The Soul of Brasil, the history of cachaca, produced for Sagatiba; and just finish Cuba: The Legend of Rum for Havana Club.
